Every year, more than one billion people travel across the globe. The number of tourists is set to increase in the next couple of years – and along with it the need to make international tourism more socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. Sustainable strategies become increasingly important. How can "overtourism" be prevented and how the negative consequences be addressed? And how does social and technological change influence our travel behaviour? With our regular events – “Ammerlander Talks“ (“Ammerlander Gespräche”) and “ITB Interjections“ (“ZwischenRufe“) – we act as a seismograph of tourism development. For more than two decades we have taken up contemporary and controversial issues and initiated debates. We observe and raise awareness.
